THE WAY FORWARD

Molly’s Yard and College Green Brew House
Molly's Yard The restored stables of College Green House off Botanic Avenue are now home to Molly’s Yard restaurant. Opened in late December 2005, Molly’s Yard is already a favourite haunt of South Belfast residents and Staff at the university.

Using local and seasonal produce, Head Chef Barry Smyth has created a menu to appeal to all the senses with more than a passing nod to the ales on sale at the bar! The tiny coach house adjoining Molly’s Yard will soon be home to College Green Brew House, due to open in March 2006 – making it Belfast’s only brewery. Currently the draught beers on sale in the restaurant are being produced at Hilden Brewing Company until the micro brewery is operational.
The new venture is the creation of Siobhan and Owen Scullion. Brewing is in their genes as their parents are Ann and Seamus Scullion, the pioneers and greatest champions of craft brewing in Ireland. Together, the brother and sister team are introducing Belfast drinkers to delightful brews such as Molly’s Chocolate Stout and Headless Dog, two distinctive beers in the craft brewing tradition. (A visit to the brewery will explain the derivation of that particular name!) And if a lager is more to your taste why not go for a Belfast Blonde? Ask for one of those in Molly’s Yard and no one will blink an eye!

The Brewery and Restaurant occupy Victorian buildings which have been painstakingly restored by Hearth, an organisation dedicated to preserving historic buildings at risk.

Molly’s Yard opens from midday Monday – Saturday. The bistro menu is available to diners from 1200 – 9.00pm with a dinner menu available in the evenings from 6pm.  For lunch or dinner reservations call 028 90322600.

Belfast Blonde

Headless Dog

Mollys Stout

Belfast Blonde ABV 4.7%
A wholly natural blonde beer with a clean and refreshing character, derived from the use of Lager Malt along with a small proportion of maize. The Mixture of continental and native varities of late and early addition hops please both the nasal senses and the taste buds.

Headless Dog ABV 4.3%
A bright amber ale, smooth initially with a slight hint of the Munich malt
coming through from the grist. This is complemented well by the stronger
refreshing taste from this well hopped beer. Named after the unusual mural
of a headless dog at the front door to the brewery.

Molly’s Chocolate Stout 4.2% ABV
A dark chocolate coloured beer as the name suggests with a full bodies character showing through with the use of whole roasted oats. A coffee taste is clearly apparent from the use of chocolate malt.
