Tomney's, The Moy Tomney's
The Moy
(028 8778 4755)

Tomney's in the beautiful village of Moy is a real gem. It's at least 300 years old. Stained glass windows. A compendium of little rooms such as a delightful French room, perhaps used by French cavalry officers attending the great Moy Horse Fair. Collector's item abound, from naff 60's compilation albums to the more subtler pieces. It is like walking into someone's house, especially when you sit down in front of an original Aga to listen to live traditional music.

The back lounge is reminiscent of a railway carriage and was once a coffin store. The front bar is small and dark and surrounded by mirrored pillars and top reminiscent of a Wurlitzer juke box. The family owners are very friendly. Popular with all ages, its quaint charm beckons for a return visit, which I do.

This is one of the "Famous Pubs Trail".

Conway's Conway's
Main Street, Newtownstewart

Once a two storey thatched pub, a previous owner added the top floor. The old petrol pump outside (one of the first in the country) has long since gone. The front bar is small and simple, with old fashioned heavy framed doors. A collection of water jugs and a beaten brass effect lighten the high painted ceiling. To the back is a small unadorned lounge with a welcoming 60's style fireplace. The owner and locals are friendly. Toilets, including the ladies, are outside to the rear.

Gallagher's Bar Gallagher's
"First & Last"
8 Mill Street, Newtownstewart
(028) 8166 2141

A basic town bar with plastered walls, tiled floor and a good, brick faced open fire. Note the 60's cocktail style panel above counter and the old mirror proclaiming the name of the bar. Complimented by 60's panelling behind bar and on ceiling. Outside gent's toilet. To the side is an old fashioned but comfortable lounge bar with fireplace, dartboard and small serving counter. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly.
